Robert - - -- Some in your discussion group were wondering about the "record" made with Bing Crosby singing San Antonio Rose, with Bob and Playboys playing, during a War Bond sale drive at Tulsa's Southern Hills Country Club during the war. I tracked that one too for a long trail that I believe led me to all the answers that are ever to be available. I finally wound up in the newspaper morgue and have the actual articles copied which tell about the sale and amount raised and events of the day. The President of Oklahoma Natural Gas Company (Tulsa) bought the "record" which I determined to be just a metal tape or actually a metal wire like they used before celluloid and film for recording. There was no recording studio set up there to actually record the song and music, so the wire was it. I called all who could have known and it is non-existant - -- - the interest to the owner was in the Bond drive and the publicity for ONG and not in the playing of such a "wire." I think the discussion on your site was in January of 2005 so if they haven't found out yet maybe they willl check back. I have an album of Bob and memorabilia with the actual copies of the War Bond news stories on loan now, (also with many photos of Wills and groups) to the Sand Springs Museum but will retrieve it soon and can give exact dates and numbers and amounts and names - -- since it was public news. Maybe this will close one of the gaps in so many unfinished stories.
