It was the early sixties, this fellow came into the Elks Lodge in Ada, OK, looking for work on the bandstand. I told him we had a three piece combo and didn't really need another musician, but if he had his instrument to bring it in and audition. He set up on the stage and commenced to pick some excellent swing. I stopped him in the middle of a tune and told him again that I didn't need another musician, but I would pay him $75 and drinks for three nights. He told me he needed $125, so we couldn't agree. As he was leaving I told him he picked a mean axe, and I asked his name, "Tag Lambert, just passing through." I found out later that he had met a certain little redhead who lived in Ada, while on Bob's bandstand in Angel Fire; he had followed her home and was looking for reason to stay awhile.
