Western swing/classic country in Tulsa

Just in case anyone here lives in or near Tulsa and, like me, has been lamenting the format change that took place about a half-year ago at 1170 KVOO, I wanted to alert you that 99.5 FM now seems to be making an attempt to fill the classic country void. Most of you hardcore Bob Wills fans probably know more about KVOO's history than I do, but as a short backgrounder, KVOO was the home of western swing (and classic country) for 80 years in Tulsa, until this year when 1170 AM switched to 24-hour talk radio. KVOO's music moved to 98.5 FM, but they changed formats and now play a healthy diet of Shania Twain and other things that aren't really country.

Anyway, last night I was rolling through the dial and found that 99.5 KXBL in Tulsa now seems to be playing classic country. Can't say as I've heard anything that you could call Western Swing yet, but I'm hopeful that Bob Wills, et al., will be part of the playlist. So, if you're in Tulsa and haven't had anything to listen to for the last half-year, you might give it a listen. I've sent them a note of appreciation and encouragement, along with a list of folks I hope they'll be playing on a regular basis (Bob Wills tops the list).

(note: I have no financial stake in 99.5 FM in Tulsa; I'm just glad to have a station at least trying to play "real" music again.)
