I've been listening to an album the last couple of days that was put out on Delta-DLP1162-which was a recording of one of Bob's live radio broadcasts in CA. in 1953. Though the quality is poor, Eldon's work on the Gibson Super 400 comes through much stronger than on most of the studio stuff. It's a full radio show with their promos for the week-end dances and the reading (by Eldon) of some fan mail. We got a couple of the "Playboys II" CDs with Eldon, Herb, Gimble, Rausch, and others and Eldon is too far back in the mix for my tastes. Those recordings could have, in my humble opinion, been far better given the talent on hand. They lack any real sparkle or punch and are too much in the "easy listening" vein. Maybe the intent was to appeal to us older fellers but I want Playboys music to have some drive!
