Jason, It seemed that starting in the 70's and maybe earlier, Hank was forced to trim the band because of economics of the road. Even in the Bear Box Set on Hank it is not clear who at times was the leader. Billy Gray is shown as leader several times. I might have missed it but Curtis is never shown as leader, although I have also heard it was so. We went to one of Curtis' dances last month and those are the years that were mentioned there. Billy Bear box set give best details of this. It seemed that from the time Hank left Capitol he was not satisfied with the music he was having to recorded. The W/S sound was not there. The same thing happened to Ray Price's music. Nashville sold out to big companies and big money that liked the likes of Kris Kristoferson and the others.
