Talk to all the greats, and they were typical "poorboys" from nowhere towns who had the CHANCE to give it a shot. This was the depression era and folks could be ever so slightly relieved from their troubles by the noon broadcasts or Saturday dances. There's a big difference between then (1930s) and now for a young lad to learn to play. Todays new players can excell to greatness, but they usually spend less time on video's,TV and games. The boys who were in Will's time had perfect focus on what they needed to do to get on a band like the Playboys. I also think the self taught styles were at the ground floor of the invention of new sounds.
