Don Helms...

Got this today from Tracy Pitcox... We just learned earlier today that the great Don Helms died in Nashville at the age of 81. He played with many of the greats in country music including Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Wilburn Brothers, Hank Williams Jr., Ray Price and Ernest Tubb. You can hear his great steel guitar intro on "Your Cheatin' Heart" from Hank and "Walking After Midnight" from Patsy. Last month, Big Bill Lister and I flew to Nashville to tape a documentary for the upcoming Hank Williams Mothers Best Flour Shows with Don. After the taping, we caught a cab with him to the Country Music Hall of Fame. He was frail, but still had that twinkle in his eye. He and Big Bill were talking about them being the last two members of the Hank Williams band still alive. He will be missed by all in the Country Music community. Tracy Pitcox
