I've been asked by the guys on the Board of THE NATIONAL FIDDLERS HALL OF FAME to throw the question out to as many as I can to learn which fiddle Bob Wills owned and used - - was his own personal favorite - - of all time???? We all know that he owned many. All of you as readers and contributors are the very best test group I could ever think of - -collectively, you know him best!
We know about the elusive Guadagnini bought in 1939. But Bob had others before and after it. From the best judgment of all of you who know more about Bob and the whole gang through the years - - what is your collective opinion of which fiddle Bob considered his own personal favorite, of all the fiddles he ever owned?
The reason for the question is that THE NATIONAL FIDDLERS HALL OF FAME is going to do its best to determine Bob's most favorite - - and have a duplicate of it made - -as close as is possible, in the same pattern, color, etc. From that one, which will be put in the MUSEUM, other duplicates will be made - - to sell at THE NATIONAL FIDDLERS HALL OF FAME, as a fund raiser to help keep the bills paid and the lights on, for visitors from everywhere who come to see and learn and enjoy the things about Bob and his great musicians and what his true genius really was. A special label will be designed and each one will be serially numbered and registered at the HALL for the permanent record and for security of the owner of each one. Approval of the project related to Bob and the others will be obtained from the Wills family and families of others who are used in the HALL and MUSEUM part of it.
The NATIONAL FIDDLERS HALL OF FAME is official now in Tulsa, and the kickoff was held earlier this year and BOB WILLS was the first INDUCTEE into THE NATIONAL FIDDLERS HALL OF FAME. Your opinions will be appreciated, as well as your thoughts about the HALL and Bob's fiddles, and if you wish, your names will be kept private. Thanks to all who will help us decide and come up with what can be considered at this late time, as Bob's favorite fiddle - -what kind, pictures if possible, color and any details you can share.
Sincerely,
Mack in Tulsa
