Wow, I've spent so much time loving BWTP from the 1950's that I plum near missed just what the early days were really like. When was the last time you heard a clairinet(sp?!) in a cowboy band! I dont know if it is just the order these songs are presented in or the quality or what cuz I dont think there is anything "new" on this but DAMN, this is a seriously good complilation. I cant get enough of the first 2 cd's, and that voice of Bob's on Rosetta? Killer. and just lemme say that I grew up on a big cattle ranch in colorado and while working cattle we often gave shouts and hollars out that were totally Tommy Duncan and we didnt even know it (generally Colorado folks dont profess to loving anything from Texas so how was I to know)! Duncan's is the quinticential yodel, and I'm sure he is the one they sample on AMC's saturday morning western promo piece. and lyrics? check out ding dong daddy for a shocker and I'm pretty sure several songs are actually about having sex, if you can imagine that and this one "it was in a gypsie place, she read my mind and she slapped my face." oh yes, that's what I'm talking about. Now I know what Truitt and BK and Skeeter are all talking about.....I cant recommend this box collection any higher, who cares I didnt even get the liner notes in my industry advance copy so i cant speak for it but as for the MUSIC....go get it!
