Casey Dickens Casey Dickens, a Beaumont, Texas native began a life-long friendship with Bob Wills that started in 1950. Casey was foremost a fan and friend of Bob Wills and later served as the Texas Playboy's drummer in the early sixties. Casey was with Bob and Tommy Duncan during the successful "Vegas days" of Bob's career. Casey's friendship and association with Bob Wills extended to their mutual love of horses. Bob not only gave Casey his 1948 hand-stitched and silver in-lined saddle, but Casey also was presented one of Punkin's (Bob's beloved horse) colts. Buddy was the colt's name and Casey rode and enjoyed Buddy for 30 years. Casey left the Texas Playboys to marry his wife Sue and later retired from a teaching career that spanned 28 years. The 73 year old Dickens has led a varied life which included the Marine corps, Triple A baseball, teaching, as well as serving as drummer and business manager for Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys. He is emphatic in stating "My years as a Texas Playboy and my time on that old bus, the fellowship, and music has been the highlight of my life." Casey has always been and still is involved in western swing and puts together a band of as many former Texas Playboys as he can utilize. They have played in Oklahoma and across Texas keeping Bob Wills and his music alive to the thousands of fans across the country.
